Super Slim PlayStation 3 Revealed?

Just under a week ago, the friendly folks at the FCC let a new PS3 model (PS3 4000 Series) slip despite any official word from Sony. Till now, the PlayStation 3 models have shipped under the 3000 series line, indicating a big refresh coming to the console. Many, including us have speculated that Sony plans to launch a new, super slim PS3 at Gamescon with an introductory price of $199. With the PlayStation 3 well into its 6th year and Microsoft offering a severely stripped down Xbox 360 at $199, it makes sense for Sony to want to fend off its competitor while bringing new people into the PlayStation family. Now, thanks to Anatel, Brazils version of the FCC, we might have even a better look at the new super slim PS3. More details and pictures, after the jump.

According to Anatel, the new super slim PlayStation will carry the CECH-4011A, CECH-4011B, and CECH-4011C model numbers which are consistent with our earlier reporting. Further digging reveals of the existence of a 16GB, 250GB, and 500GB model with the 16GB surely being priced at the $199 which beats its Xbox counterpart that offers only 4GB.

New to the series will also be a 500GB model which could bring the series to $199, $299, and $349 though those prices are pure speculation on our end. From the pictures below, it should also be noted that it seems that due to the new form factor, the PlayStation 3 will sport a top loading Blu-ray drive, not seen since the PlayStation One era though not exactly the same. It should be noted however that all of this should run through your “the internet is capable of using Photoshop” filter. However, whispers of a new lower priced PS3 have been gaining traction for months and a redesign would surely help Sony achieve this goal.
