Editorial: What I Want to See From Sony at E3

With E3 right around the corner, speculations and expectations are high. Information regarding what is being announced and what will be available to preview is slowly trickling into social media, and everyone is generally excited about what the next generation consoles will have to offer. I’ve been thinking a bit lately on what I expect to see, want to see, and would lose my mind in excitement to see, and how that would affect my personal opinion on the effectiveness and success of the Sony press conference. Some things are must-haves, while some things are really reaching into the depths of hopefulness and fangirling.

What I Expect:

1. the box, a price and a release date

This is pretty much a given, and honestly if they DON’T reveal what it looks like, what it costs and when you can give Sony your money, they will get a lot of slack. I expect to see what it looks like because we’ve already seen the new XBox, and I expect a price and a release date because we’re less than six months out, and people need time to budget for spending hundreds of dollars.

If Sony doesn’t provide this information to their fans at E3, they will be behind XBox, and you know that Microsoft will be providing more finite details on the cost and release date. And I think we have all waited long enough.

2. a new exclusive, or a new exclusive IP

The announced games so far for the Playstation 4 are great, and diverse, but I want something more in line with my tastes – and I know I’ll get it. There will be some new JRPG or Naughty Dog creation (now that The Last of Us has almost dropped) that is going to make me squeeeeeee, and will only be on the Playstation 4. As an RPG girl, Sony is always the best for filling my needs as a gamer, and having them expand on what was revealed in February has me very excited!

3. more detail on how it works

With all the brand new drama surrounding Microsoft, the connectivity, and used or rented games, there is needed clarification from Sony on how they plan to approach these subjects. There is already a lot of speculation that Sony will fall in line with Microsoft, as their take on used games and restrictions could affect their third party developer relationships. I don’t want to speculate however, I just want to know, and I want to hear it from the horse’s mouth myself.

What I Want:

1. Uncharted 4

The Uncharted series has been huge for the Playstation, and rightfully so. The story is immaculate, the gameplay is smooth, and the multiplayer is still strong today. To let Nathan Drake go now would be awful, and this E3 I want to hear what is next for him and Sully, and experience the next amazing forgotten ruin they come across next.

2. no need for PS Eye

Not many people are unaware of the X1’s need to have Kinect attached at all times, and paranoia aside, I don’t want to have to have it out all the time on top of my TV to play games if I don’t need it. I hope that the same is true for the PS Eye, and although I know they plan on coming out with a 2.0 version for the PS4, I want to know their intentions for it. And fingers crossed, I won’t need one at all, except for my dancing games.

3. live gameplay

The one thing that the XBox reveal was missing (besides games) was live gameplay. And while we got some of that during the Sony reveal in February, I want more. I don’t want to see what a new game will look like during the cutscenes – I want to see what a new game will look like while I’m playing it. And I really hope that Sony has some live gameplay during their conference for those of us that can’t play the games for ourselves at the event.

OMG YESSSSSSSSSSS!!!:

1. Final Fantasy 7 HD Remake

The Final Fantasy fanbase has been asking for this for a while now, and while we know it’s not coming anytime soon (or even at all) it would be SO SUPER AWESOME as a surprise at E3. I have played this game a good dozen times now, but to play it again remastered in HD would be great. Playing it now makes me feel like I’ve lost my glasses when they are clearly on my face. And to have trophies?! oh. god. yes.

2. under $400 price point

I am a poor student, and so shelling out $500 for a Playstation 4 in a few months is going to be a hit to my budget. And while I am slowly saving up to get my day one console, I would love to have an extra $100 to put towards a couple day one release games. That being said, I don’t really expect the price point to be this low, especially for the larger size model of what’s available this holiday season. A girl can dream though.

3. a pet robot

OK seriously this last one is a joke. But really, how cool would a little PS robot be? His name would be Station, and he would be adorable, and look like Wall-E. And get you snacks and charge your controller without plugging it in to the Playstation.

Now I really want that to happen.
