Sony 4K Media Server Lands On July 15th, Includes 10 4K Movies

Sony 4K Media Server with XBR

A year ago, Sony launched their mega 84-inch 4K television priced at $25,000, knowing that it was aimed at a small segment of the market. At CES 2013, Sony would follow up with 4K 55- and 65-inch models priced at $5,000 and $7,000 respectively in order to reach a wider audience. To help drive content media, Sony included their 4K media server (FMP-X1) with each 84-inch XBR unit while the standalone versions would eventually be sold separately.

Now, come July 15th,  Sony will be selling the 4K media server for $699 which is only compatible with Sony’s 4K XBR line. Early adopters of those sets will also be eligible for a $200 discount. To help further sweeten the deal, Sony will also provide a “in-home setup and activations” free of charge. Interested parties will need to visit 4KActivation.com come July 8th when the site launches. Sony is also including 10 4K movies on each media server to ensure a proper wow factor from your TV which include:

  • The Amazing Spider-Man
  • Bad Teacher, featuring Cameron Diaz
  • The Karate Kid, featuring Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith
  • The Other Guys, featuring Will Ferrell
  • Battle: Los Angeles
  • That’s My Boy, featuring Adam Sandler
  • Salt, featuring Angelina Jolie
  • Total Recall 2012, featuring Colin Farrell and Kate Beckinsale
  • Taxi Driver
  • The Bridge on the River Kwai
