Buy ‘Call of Duty: Ghosts’ for PS3, Get PS4 Version for $10

Call of Duty Ghosts PS4 CoverOne of the surprise announcements from Sony at the Gamescom 2013 conference was a key partnership between PlayStation and 3rd party studios like EA and Activision where games who would purchase select PS3 titles would be rewarded if they wanted to buy the same title for the PlayStation 4. The games mentioned include heavy hitters like Call of Duty: Ghosts and Battlefield 4. Now, according to Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing, Call of Duty: Ghosts can be had for $10 on the PS4.

Today we’re announcing that anyone who buys Call of Duty: Ghosts for the PS3 will be able to upgrade to Call of Duty: Ghosts for the PS4 for a limited time at a suggested retail price of just $10, €10, or £10. We have also previously announced that for a limited time our players will bring all of their Season Pass Content and all of their in-game progress with them within a console family, for no additional charge. We have the best fans in the world, and we want to make this transition as seamless and easy for them as possible. And there’s more news to come on that front. Stay tuned.

According to Sony and Hirshberg, those who purchase a retail copy of games, in this case CoD will be able to enter a program where they also get a digital copy for the PS4 for $10, €10, or £10. While the program is for a limited time, neither party has spoken out on exactly how long that time frame is. However, the move appears to be a smart one that makes the upgrade path towards the PS4 much easier. This is especially true since you cannot play PS3 titles on the PS4. EA has yet to comment on the matter but we’ve been told to expect a similar, if not identical upgrade path and cost.

With programs like this in place, are you more likely to buy a PS3 title, knowing that you can get the PS4 version for a fraction of the cost?
