Editorial: A New Vita Price Means Less Money For Me

At Gamescom this year, Sony finally announced something that the industry, and myself especially, has been waiting on for awhile – a permanent Vita price drop. One of my first editorials focused on what games I needed to convince me to get a Vita, but I also said that a price drop could sway me as well. And, considering both the games that have been released since that editorial, and the ones that are coming, it is safe to say that my time has come.

There are a few reasons why I’ve been wanting a Vita. For one, there are some amazing games on the handheld that I can’t play on my PS3. As a JRPG fanatic, it almost hurts me that I have yet to play Persona 4 Golden. I also have my eyes on Ragnarok Odyssey, Uncharted: Golden Abyss, and AC: Liberation. There are a few PSN games I would also love to have on the go, including some older PSP games, and the old school Final Fantasy games that I love: 7,8 and 9.

The second reason is trophies, honestly. I love my 3DS, and I play it all the time while I’m on the go, but my obsession with collecting trophies cannot currently be satisfied while I’m out and about and need to kill some time. In order to up that trophy level more and more, I need to have the Vita. Plain and simple.

The third, and probably the biggest reason right now, is because I have to share the entertainment setup with my husband, Tony. He and I are both all about the PS3 right now, and it becomes a little difficult to share. In my last editorial, I talked about how you can balance between sharing the TV with your significant other. And buying a second entertainment centre aside, one of the best and easiest ways to game together is if one person is on the TV and the other has a lovely handheld to play. Tony has zero interest in any of the available games on the 3DS, so if we are going to make shared gaming time work with a handheld, it has to be a handheld he is interested in as well.

All signs now point to the Vita. It is time to take the plunge.

With all that said and done, I need to A) choose a bundle and B) choose 2 or 3 starter games to go along with my already pretty decent PS Plus freebies (I’ve been queueing EVERYTHING free since I got Plus almost 2 years ago. I’m pretty set). It really shouldn’t be that big of a decision, but I’m a little stuck between two different bundles: The 3G/Wifi with PS Plus, the Assassin’s Creed: Liberation bundle, or the new Walking Dead bundle.

The two game bundles are nice because right away I’ve knocked out one game off of my list. The Telltale Walking Dead game was phenomenal, and I would love to play it again. The Liberation bundle not only comes with a game on my list, but also is a really great white color, which I love and can NEVER GET FROM NINTENDO. Finally, there’s the 3G bundle. While I don’t think I would use the 3G capabilities, I like the idea of being able to use it if I’d like to in the future. And, while it doesn’t come with a game in the box, it does come with a year of PS Plus, which is kind of like getting a ton of games in the box. After considering what I can get in terms of cheaper used games, and having something that crosses over to my PS3, Vita, and my future PS4, my choice is simple: I’m going to have to go for the 3G/Wifi bundle with the PS Plus membership.

As for games? Well I have a few ideas on what I want to pick up for Tony and I, but I’d like to hear from you!

What do you suggest as a must have first game? Remember, I have everything free from plus!
