PS3 Blu-ray Remote Won’t Work on PS4

PS4 PS3 Blu-ray Remote

Besides being my go to game machine for the past 7+ years, the PlayStation 3 has been my only Blu-ray. Being a home theater freak and obsessing over every pixel, color, and audio cue, the trusty PS3 was still my go to machine and always seemed ahead of the curve when it came to expanded Blu-ray features like Blu-ray Live which required Java and 3D Blu-ray support. While many of you might not be as extreme as me, chances are that you own a PS3 Blu-ray remote and were hoping to use it on the PS4 later this year. Well, tough luck it seems.

According to Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida, the PS3 Blu-ray remote won’t work on the PS4 when asked about it on Twitter:

Q: Hi Mr Yoshida, Can I use the ps3 blu ray remote control in ps4 ? Thanks. Greetings from Spain.

A: no, sorry

If you’re not familiar, the PS4 like the PS3 has a built in Blu-ray drive and will deliver the same features when it comes to consuming Blu-ray and DVD films. It remains to be seen if Sony plans to introduce a PS4 Blu-ray remote though that seems doubtful as we’ve yet to see anything for it. Till then, it seems that we’re left with either using the Dualshock 4 controller. Equally, it’s still up in the air if the PS Vita or the PlayStation App for iOS and Android devices will be able to control the PS4.

Are you bummed that there seems to be no official PS4 Blu-ray remote and that your PS3 remote won’t work or are you fine using the Dualshock 4?
