Dimmed Hopes – PS4 Controller Just Keeps Glowing

PS4 Controller Light Bar Decal

President of Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida caused a stir on Twitter recently, suggesting that a future firmware update for the PS4 that would allow the user to save more battery in the controller by changing how the light bar worked.

There was some confusion about whether this would be a full disable of the light bar or a dim setting, and finally Yoshida has cleared this up.

It’s clear from reading feedback from gamers that while many appreciate the cool glow of the PS4 controller, it seems the likely culprit for the shorter battery compared to the PS3 controller. There has to be something that can be done, right? Many PS4 users are calling for a setting to fully disable the light bar, though Sony seems against that. That might be marketing related – as it’s a defining feature of the current generation offering something synonymous with PlayStation; something iconic, different and the image associates with the brand.

Shuhei Yoshida responded to a Twitter user on what’s happening:

The exact firmware update when this setting will be enabled has not been named, so we will have to wait for news on that.

If anyone has heard of anyone going to extreme methods to disable the light bar, do let us know! There has to be someone! Is the dim feature enough? Do you want a full light disable?
