Sony Backtracks on DriveClub PS+ Edition Upgrade Policy

Now that DriveClub seems on track (no pun intended) on making its Fall debut, Sony is trickling out more news what seems like a daily basis. One of the revelations from it all has been the upgrade policy surrounding the game. For those not aware, PlayStation Plus members will get what’s called DriveClub PlayStation Plus Edition for free. As you’d expect, it’s not the full game, meaning it’s lacking courses and tracks which can either be individually purchased or games can upgrade to the full version by paying $49.99/€49.99/£42.99. On caveat? If your PS+ membership ran out, you’d lose access to the entire game.

PlayStation Plus has from its inception worked on this model. Free games are yours until your membership runs out and fans have mostly been understanding of this policy. What makes this situation unique is that you’d be upgrading to the full game, all be it with a discount. Still, gamers were understandably so up in arms over the policy which frankly made little sense. It’s not as if there is some deep discount (only $10). Luckily, Sony has since due to the backlash and hopefully due to filling their tank with some common sense has backtracked on that policy.

Our priority for DriveClub is to enable you to play and enjoy everything it has to offer and PlayStation recognises that the prior plan for DriveClub entitlement for the upgrade to the PS Plus edition was not appropriate. As a result, we have adjusted the PlayStation Plus terms for DriveClub.

Now, If you intend on downloading DriveClub PlayStation Plus Edition, and upgrading to the full game experience, you will have access to the full game even if your PlayStation Plus subscription runs out.
