No Clutch Support for ‘DriveClub’…. Currently

DriveClub_InteriorAs DriveClub continues to race (had to) towards its October 7th release date, we continue to find out more small tidbits about the highly anticipated ‘social’ racing simulator. One such piece of news comes from Game Director Paul Rustchynsky, who revealed on Twitter that ‘DriveClub’ would not launch with clutch support. That means those who were looking for an extra authentic racing experience will simply have to rely on shifting without that extra feedback – but it’s not really a bad thing, and it actually makes sense. Let us explain.

First, the tweet that revealed this:

Before everyone gets up in arms about this, let’s put things into context. If you’re planning on playing DriveClub with the Dualshock 4 than the above news means nothing to you. You can continue to race as you would, either on automatic mode or manual which allows you to shift when you want. This news affects players who have a driving wheel and pedal system. With the PS4 only supporting the Thrustmaster T-500, there exists only a small market for such a functionality, making the inclusion of it unnecessary.

As Paul points out, this applies “currently” and it does leave the door open for future updates to the game that would bring clutch support. One would imagine that if such a thing were to happen, it be alongside news of new driving wheels for the PS4.
