Spotify is a music streaming service that is available on smartphones, tablets and PC. Now the PlayStation 4 is next in line to have Spotify, and this is the first part of the transformation of the media services on the PS4. Sony has announced they will be closing down Music Unlimited and Video Unlimited which are the current sources of media entertainment, for PlayStation Music and PlayStation Video. Spotify is the first of many to partner with Sony in a collaboration to give gamers excellent service. Though let’s not forget all the people who have subscriptions for Music Unlimited they will receive a month of Music Unlimited free before the service is forever shut down.

Spotify-Overview

This news does bring up more questions than answers, but this is just the beginning of a shift in how PlayStation gamers interact with their media. For example Plex is a new app that can be found in TV & Video section for your PS4. This app allows you to stream content from your PC on to your PS4, but unfortunately it is locked behind a pay wall. Now with PlayStation Music will be free but the apps within it may end up costing money to use but as of now we don’t know, but what we do know is Spotify is free on PC, Tablets and Smartphones so that may carry on to the PS4. As for the release of the Spotify the date is unknown but the Music Unlimited users will be getting their free month on February 28, 2015 lasting through March.
