Rumor: Sony Xperia Z4 to Offer 1440p Screen

Chock this one up to the rumor mill but there’s been some talk about the LCD display that will offered on the Sony Xperia Z4. Thanks to leaked images, we already know that, much like the Xperia Z3, we’ll be getting a 5.2-inch display when the Z4 is announced later this year. What’s been unclear is the resolution that will come with it. Currently, the Sony Xperia Z3 offers a 1080p (1080 x 1920) 424 ppi display. With the Xperia Z4, we could see a significant boost – but at a cost. Details and a few more pics after the jump.

If Sony is planning on bumping up the resolution count on the Xperia Z4, it will likely mean that we’ll see a 1440 x 2560 resolution display. With a higher pixel count on the 5.2-inch display, expect your photos to look sharper and those 4K videos you recorded to be even more crisp and more true to the quality the phone is able to capture. This will, of course, come with a cost, and not a financial one to you and I. Instead with the increased resolution, expect a hit in battery unless Sony has been able to optimize the phone in new ways. Sources have pointed to both displays being a possibility, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Sony has working Z4s with both displays and is still figuring out which one they intend to launch with.

Of course, increased resolution doesn’t always mean a better screen and all 1080p displays are not equal. Meaning, if Sony decides to not increase the resolution count, there is still room for them to improve the image quality.

Discuss:

Is a hit in battery life worth an increase in resolution, or is a 1080p display fine?
