The apocalypse is here folks. Samsung which is single handily responsible for conquering (this does not mean better quality) Sony in nearly every consumer electronic category is being invaded by Sony from the inside out. Shown off at CES 2015, starting today, PlayStation Now, the game streaming service from Sony will be available on select Samsung smart TVs. For those unfamiliar, PlayStation Now allows you to rent games on a per title bases or offers unlimited game play for $19.99.

Lets talk more after the jump.

PlayStation Now is currently available on primarily on Sony devices like PS4 and 2015 Bravia 4K TVs. (You can read the full PlayStation Now compatible device list here) But for Sony, they clearly see the future of PlayStation something beyond their own hardware and instead, a service that lives in the cloud. While for purist Sony fans, there is a bit of pain to see a beloved part of Sony be offered on a competitor that as I stated above, has has the biggest negative impact on Sony but to hold a grudge in business is purely silly.

Instead, it’s a wise and welcome news for Sony to take their service where consumers are. Sure, you can get the experience on Sony’s lineup of devices but if the competitor is selling hardware that you can piggy back off of and ultimately bring more people to PlayStation, why not take advantage of that. Years ago, Sony would have attempted to leverage Playstation in favor of their own hardware but with their diminished strength in consumer electronic, the payoff would have likely been very little and in the long term, only hindered PlayStation which brings us to todays news.

Starting today, PlayStation Now will be available on select Samsung smart TVs. Unfortunately, it’s unclear which TVs will be receiving this update which will simply be an app. It’s likely a safe bet to assume all of Samsung’s 4K TVs will gain the ability, seeing how they have the processing  power to run more powerful apps but details are scare. We’ll have more on this additional information is revealed.

Do you think it’s smart of Sony to extend the reach of PlayStation Now beyond their own hardware?
