Meet the Sony Xperia C5 Ultra and Xperia M5

Sony_Xperia_C5_Ultra_and_Xperia_M5Prior to IFA 2015, which takes place in Berlin on September 4-9th, Sony has launched two new mid-range smartphones, the Xperia C5 Ultra and the Xperia M5. As its name suggests, the Xperia C5 Ultra is a fairly large phone; 6 inches to be exact; with a 1080p display while the Xperia M5 comes with a more reasonably sized 5-inch, 1080p display. While there’s nothing unique about their sizes, what makes these two devices stand out from the glut of Android devices is their front-facing camera – a 13-megapixel beast that can satisfy all of your ‘selfie’ needs.

More details about the jump.

Sony_Xperia_M5_1While quite similar to one another, a few key specs differentiate the phones just enough to make you pause. Besides the screen size difference, the Xperia C5 Ultra (pictured above) offers a front-facing flash to go along with its 22m wide-angle lens. This alone makes the phone stand out from the crowd and, alongside the 13-megapixel front-facing camera, could make it a winner. Other noteworthy specs include

  •  64-bit 1.7GHz octa-core processor
  • 2GB of RAM
  • 2,930mAh battery
  • 16GB internal memory
  • microSD
  • Android 5.0
  • 4G

According to Sony, the battery should be good for two days. Then there is the Xperia M5 (pictured below). While smaller in screen size and lacking the front-facing flash, you’ll instead be treated to a more powerful 21.5-megapixel Exmoor RS camera sensor that’s capable of shooting 4K video with faster phase detection autofocus. Sony has also made the Xperia M5 more durable with a IP65/68 water- and dust-resistance design that should withstand your heaviest party nights. Other specs are:

  • 64-bit 2GHz MediaTek X10 processor
  • 3GB of RAM
  • 2,930mAh battery
  • 16GB internal memory
  • microSD
  • Android 5.0
  • 4G

Sony_Xperia_M5_2Since 16GB is the only internal storage option, the inclusion of microSD will certainly be helpful, seeing how you’ll be able to shoot fairly high resolution photos. No word yet on pricing or availability, other than they’ll be available

in selected countries across emerging markets

in the middle of August. While similar enough, each device offers its fair share of features to make you pause and debate which one is the right one for you.
