Meet the Sony S6700 4K Upscaling Blu-ray Player

Sony S6700 4K Upscaling Blu-ray PlayerBefore we get too far along into this piece, please note that this is a 4K upscaling Blu-ray player and not a 4K Blu-ray player. With that out of the way, the Sony BDP-S6700 4K upscaling Blu-ray player was revealed at CES alongside their Hi-Res Audio and Video 4K upscaling player. Though lacking a lot of the audio features of its higher-end counterpart, the Sony S6700 is still a worthy player and costs considerably less.

Details after the jump.

Featuring the slim design we’ve come to know over the past year, the Sony S6700 4K upscaling Blu-ray player as the name suggests is able to upconvert your current Blu-ray films to 4K. Like the Hi-Res Audio and Video player, the S6700 also provides wireless multi-room streaming which means via the Sony SongPal app, you can connect other wireless speakers for playback throughout the house.

New to this year’s line is also the ability to separate channels and create a true 5.1 surround sound. Previously via SongPal, you were able to playback the same content from linked speakers. Now, speakers can have specific designations like Rear Left and Rear Right. With wireless streaming, you can also tap into radio stations like Spotify and Deezer.

If streaming to the house isn’t your thing, via Bluetooth, you can also pair your favorite headphones and enjoy music playback that way as well. The Sony S6700 4K Upscale Blu-ray Player will be available from March 2016 priced at approximately €160 ($149).
