Mum’s been the word on the release date for Android 6.0 Marshmallow but according to Sony Mobile’s UK Twitter account, the release is right around the corner. When asked about when they could expect to get the latest Android build, the response was a no frills ‘March 7th for Xperia Z5 series, Z4 Tablet and Z3+.’ Specifically:

Things just got more interesting and I’ve updated the article to reflect that. More after the jump.

Seeing how the tweet has yet to be deleted, I’d take this as fairly official answer and not as somebody drinking too much Hefeweizen while on the job and therefore being too candid with info. However, a lot still remains to be seen like if the revealed release date is just for the UK, or Europe, or worldwide. As it stands, the following Xperia devices will receive Android 6.0 Marshmallow:

  • Xperia Z5
  • Xperia Z5 Compact
  • Xperia Z5 Premium
  • Xperia Z4 Tablet
  • Xperia Z3+

I’ve reached out to Sony to see if the release date is also valid for the US and will keep you all updated if I hear back.

Update:

After posting this article, the tweet from Sony Mobile has curiously disappeared. Perhaps it was a case of too much Hefeweizen.

Discuss:

Do you think we’ll be getting Marshmallow on March 7th?
