Marshmallow Update Brings Sony SmartWatch 3 to Android Wear 1.4

Good news for those of you with a Sony SmartWatch 3. Via an over-the-air software update, you can now download Marshmallow for your wearable which brings it up to Android Wear 1.4 and build number MEC24H. Ryan Whitwam writes:

There was some concern after two months of waiting that Sony and Google were going to leave this device behind. It’s the last watch to get the Marshmallow update, but at least it’s getting it. We don’t know why this watch took so long, but it probably has something to do with the unique hardware (it has a Broadcom ARM chip) and general issues with slow development (it’s Sony).

I’ve yet to get my hands on the full changelog but the word is that not a lot has been changed. Most of the update revolves around battery optimizations and app permissions so don’t expect anything major. The last proper update the SmartWatch 3 received was Android Wear 1.3 in August which brought with it some big enhancements. I’ll keep you updated if I hear of anything newsworthy – and if you know of additional tweaks, let me know in the comments section.
