Sony Xperia Projector – “Blurring the Line Between the Digital and Physical”

Over the past year, Sony has been expanding the scope of Xperia beyond smartphones to more ‘everyday’ and futuristic devices like Xperia Ear, which launches in November, Xperia Agent, and Xperia Projector.

Turn any surface into a touchscreen. With short-throw projection and state-of-the-art sensors, Xperia Projector will transform how you share, show and tell.
Intuitively touch, wave or talk to it as it casts your content onto any flat surface – Xperia Projector is visionary technology.

It’s not hard to imagine a device like the Xperia Projector being the stepping stones into a Tony Stark world where computing can be projected onto any surface. But till we get there, is a device like this actually useful or is it more a novelty that’s cool to use a few times before it’s tucked away in our tech drawers?

If I were Sony, I’d be hard at working with merchants and retailers to bring this technology to them first and then consumers. Imagine Sony teaming up with Square so the next time you visit your local coffee house, their entire menu or checkout process is displayed virtually on the counter. Not only will that have some novelty factor for patrons of the store, but it’s also a casual way to seep the idea of such a device and its possibilities into consumer minds without some heaving marketing effort.

Would you find the Xperia Projector useful or is it a fun toy at best right now?
