What Android 7.0 Nougat brings to Xperia phones

Android 7.0 Nougat has been the most aggressive release Sony has done to date. In just the past week we’ve seen the latest OS build arrive for Xperia X Performance and Xperia XZ with more phones to come in the near future. According to Sony, Nougat will be made available to the

Xperia Z3+, Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia Z5 Premium, Xperia X, Xperia XA, Xperia XA Ultra and Xperia X Compact.

All of this then begs, what exactly does the new OS bring with it?

  • Multi-window support – multitasking made easy; run two apps simultaneously and double tap to switch between each
  • Longer battery life – do more for longer, with improved battery life powered by Google & Sony Xperia
  • Messaging – more ways to tell your story with our latest Messaging app, enabling you to share videos and audio with a few taps
  • Manual camera settings control – all-new manual focus and shutter speed controls, now available for Xperia X Performance
  • Home screen – a smarter and more personal Xperia home screen, with Google Now integration

If you’re anything like me and use your phone as your primary means of taking photos, manual camera settings control alone will make the OS upgrade worth it. What feature of Android 7.0 are you most looking forward to?

Hands down, split screen feature longtime coming. Don’t know why it took so long for Android to add a feature made popular by windows 95. But wonderful addition to not only my Z3+ but more so to my Tablet Z4. Not really enthused about the other features especially since I use skins but definitely looking forward to the multitasking screen. Now if only Sony would put out one more phone with Quad HD and 64gb internal with expandable external.

  • Yea certainly not a huge deal for me on the phone but on tablets, to multitask, changes how I use them for the better in a big way

Im happy with my Xperia XZ as it is. But I suppose its a good sign that Sony was relativly fast to get Nougat.

Manual shutter speed. The Sony sensor is great and allows high ISO without too much noise, but auto mode sometimes causes blurry pictures due to too slow shutter speeds. Split screen on tablets should be great too.
