WTF: Sony to Release Underwater ‘Xperia Aquatech’ Store in Dubai

Sony_Xperia_Aquatech_Store_ConceptChalk this purely under the WTF category, but the above header is about as real as it gets. In Dubai, the country with no shortage of money which currently houses some of the world’s most beautiful buildings, is getting something exotic that goes in line with the lifestyle that the wealthy get to enjoy there. Set to debut on December 3rd, 2014, Sony is opening an underwater ‘Xperia Aquatech’ store according to Rüediger Odenbac, Vice President of Sony Mobile Middle East and Africa. The new underwater Sony store will allow select Sony customers. VIPs, and media to view and play with waterproof Sony smartphones and tablets like the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact.

According to Odenbac, they

promised 2014 would be a year marked by a Bigger, Better, and Bolder Sony approach to both our products and the way we present them

and they believe this is one such way. That is, if it wasn’t the most absurd idea ever. Let me explain.

Sony Previews Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact In New Video

Just yesterday, we gave you the scoop on Sony’s newest tablet, the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact with a 8-inch 1080p display. Words of course don’t always convey all a product has to offer. To that end, Sony has put together a new preview video which can be seen above that gives you an overview of what you can expect with this ultra light tablet launches.

Tablets are all the rave these days. Ask Apple and they’ll proudly reveal that iPad is their fastest selling product in history. Digging a bit further into what has fueled growth for iPad will reveal when Apple introduced the iPad mini that offers a 7.9-inch display. Not only is the iPad mini lighter and easier to use with one hand, but it also carries a lower price tag than the iPad (now iPad Air), which helps break down barriers. Enter the Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact. Forget for a minute how horrible the name is and instead focus on what Sony calls the “world’s slimmest at 6.4mm and lightest (270g or 0.6lbs) compact tablet” has to offer.

We reveal all there is to know about the Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact after the jump.

Sony_Xperia_Z_Android_444_1

You hear that? That’s the sound of thousands of Sony Xperia Z owners rejoicing over the semi-official confirmation that the Xperia Z will be gaining Android 4.4.4. Just yesterday, we revealed that Sony would be ending software support for the Xperia T, TX, and V in order to focus on newer products. Despite those phones being on Android 4.1, Sony plans to send them off into the sunset with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean later this year. It remains unclear how much further Sony will support the Xperia Z which was released 2 years ago but we at least now know it will gain Android 4.4.4. The best part of this reveal is that other Xperia devices may also be gaining the latest Android build as well. Let’s talk after the jump.

Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact Accidentally Revealed

Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet

You see the image above? Yea, that’s from the instructions booklet for the Sony Bluetooth Speaker BSC10. Notice the devices it’s compatible with like the  Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact? For those playing at home, that tablet has yet to be announced. We’d previously revealed tidbits of information that had leaked about a new Sony tablet (SGP621) and speculated that in fact it might be a new compact design. With IFA 2014 right around the corner, we’d expected and still believe that Sony will unveil their next tablets. Now, the above leak all but confirms that we will in fact be getting two new tablets from Sony in the near future.

The European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA) is the largest editorial multimedia organization in Europe, and this year they 6 Sony products were top of the class in their categories to win outright.

Last year Sony won 5 ‘best’ awards, including for the best tablet of the year award. This year the Xperia Z2 Tablet collected the same award, proving in a young category of product innovation, tablets, that Sony has got all the ideas right.

So slim, so classy, so slick – the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet is undoubtedly an EISA winner.

Sony has given a secret to why their products succeed, read on to know what it is (and the other winners!)

Sony Xperia Z2 Compact Tablet (SGP621) On the Way?

Sony_Tablet_SGP621

If the name scheming trend from Sony continues (and we don’t have any reason to believe that it will be different), the successor the Xperia Z2 Tablet will likely be the Xperia Xperia Z3 Tablet. Unlike flagship smartphones from Sony which are released roughly every 6 months, Sony is taking a more traditional one year cycle with each tablet it brings to the market. This puts the most recent leak of a Sony SGP621 tablet in direct contrast with previous product cycles which saw the public unveiling of the Xperia Z2 Tablet in February. That is, unless this is a completely different type of tablet.

Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet Comes Exclusively to Verizon

Sony_Xperia_Z2_TabletSony teased us over and over again about working with Verizon and they’ve finally delivered. While it’s not the Xperia Z2 that many had been hoping for, Sony and Verizon have officially announced the partnership that will see the waterproof tablet make its official debut in the US with carrier support. News about the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet coming to Verizon began to circulate as early as May and most recently in early June. Now that the two companies have made it official, what does it mean for you? Let’s talk details.

Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet for Verizon Gets Leaked

Sony_Xperia_Z2_Tablet_Verizon_LogoLate last month, we reported how the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet is likely headed to Verizon. Sony has been clear that they want to expand their mobile presence and work with carrier partners. With Verizon being one of the top players in the US, bringing their smartphones and tablets on big red’s network seems like a no brainer. Even earlier that month, Sony themselves accidentally leaked a photo of the company’s flagship Xperia Z2 smartphone with a Verizon logo though as expected, the company’s stance was that it was purely a internal mockup. Right.

Now, we have another promotional leak and it’s their flagship Android tablet with the Verizon logo which can be seen above.

Is the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet Coming to Verizon?

Sony_Xperia_Tablet_Z2_VerizonAccording to the popular evleaks group, Sony is looking to bring their flagship Android tablet to Verizon. As you may recall, Sony last month accidentally published a photo of the Xperia Z2, the company’s newest Android smartphone, sporting a Verizon logo. While the mega cellphone carrier had no comments on the matter, Sony was quick to point out that the photo was purely for internal marketing purposes and was not indicative of a deal between the two companies. With that as a backdrop, is news about the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet running on Verizon a coincidence?

Let’s talk after the jump.

Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet to Arrive in Canada on May 7th

Sony_Xperia_Z2_Tablet_Official

Canada is already set to get the Sony Xperia Z2, the company’s next flagship Android smartphone through Bell in May. Unfortunately for fans in the US, we’ll have to settle for an unlocked version sometime this summer which will likely garner a price point north of $700. The tablet front, however, is something entirely different. Sony has announced a May 3rd release date for the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet in the US with pre-order spots already open. Now, the company is following through and bringing the tablet to Canada as well with just a few days difference.

Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet Price and Release Date Revealed

Sony_Xperia_Z2_Tablet

The Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet is, dare we say, kind of a sexy thing. While maintaining even a thinner profile than its predecessor at .25-inches and weighting in at 15.5 ounces, it still manages to pack quite a punch. How much you ask? I’m glad you asked. Despite such a thin profile that puts the Android tablet on par with the iPad Air, the 10.1-inch Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet also offers 2.3 GHz Quad-core Snapdragon 801 and 3GB RAM. Like Apple, Sony will offer the Xperia Z2 Tablet in a Wi-Fi only model and Wi-Fi + LTE. Though Sony has yet to announce a specific carrier as their partner, the Z2 Tablet was just recently approved by the FCC for LTE support on AT&T’s network so there may be our owners. With approval out of the way by the FCC, all that remains is the launch date for it.
