Director Chosen for MGS Movie?

Anybody catch Equilibrium? I sure did and loved it. Anybody else catch Ultraviolet? I sure did…(those dots speak words about the movie) So I have mixed feelings when rumors have come on the interweb that Kurt Wimmer might be penning and directing the movie. Now, to his more positive credit, he has also penned Sphere and The Thomas Crown Affair so more positive points for him but I cant help but think, why not Kojima son himself? One of the reasons why the MGS series has been so well received is that its as smart and twisted and action packed as any Hollywood film could ever be and the dialogue is smart and packed with many layers of the current state of the world. Plus, the MGS series have equally been known for how cinematic they feel and play. So with that in mind, wouldn’t it just make sense to have the man who made all of this happen be the writer/director and hell, actor? (Stunts and Gaffer work not included)

Japanese MGS4 Pricing Revealed

So everybody was up in arms as the next generation console game prices were announced. (A $10 spike to $59 for new titles but I guess everybody forgot about the days of NES and $100 games) but thats ok because I guess Japan still remembers. According to Famitsu, the regular version of Metal Gear Solid 4 will retail for ¥8,800 (US $91), the Special Edition will go for ¥9,800 ($101). But thats not all Japan is getting because for ¥51,800 ($534), you get yourself a limited edition MGS4 PS3, all MGS4 style.

Singstar Store Update

Its time for Singstar fans to put a smile on their face as a fairly good sized update is hitting the Singstar Store. The only catch is that the 24 song update are songs that have already appeared on the PS2 version but if you dont own them, then this friday is game day.

PS3 Firmware 2.2 brings BD-Live

Days like this, skeptics usually stay home and fanboys go out and throw a party. Were just glad Sony has found yet another way to add value to the PS3 and continue to make it the best damn Blu-ray Player out there. The best part is, its all coming this month adding interactive capabilities to the PS3 for Blu-ray flicks that allow for downloadble wallpapers, ringtones and whatever else might be loaded on to them. Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Details

Theres a few things guys like. Cars, Girls, Steak, Cleaning, George W. Bush. Gran Turismo 5 Prologue only has one of these things and frankly, it got the most important one of them all. Cars. I myself have been trying to pickup the new E90 M3 but as it seems, im short $69,900 (I do have the $100!) so im glad atleast GT5 Prologue will atleast settle that craving of mine, until I can pull of a Oceans 11.

PSP Skype Headset

More PSP news. So Skype for the PSP? Free and great. Headset also great, if you have one. Now the current PSP headset works just fine with games like Socom and Syphon Filter and so it equally works fine with Skype. But Sony is bringing an official Skype headset this April. Price not yet announced but were gonna speculate on $20.

Industry Shocked: Haze PS3 Exclusive. We Say No Shit?

So we wont say who but in the past few days, numerous gaming websites have reported that Haze is PS3 exclusive and that there is no plans for other console; Xbox 360, ~~Wii~~. Now, I dont know if we here have access to the 4D capabilities of the PS3 or if John Connor has visited us and told us but didnt we know this 5 months ago? Its even said in all the developer videos on PlayStation Network (psn).

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Hits 1 Million Mark, Not born yet

Some games take sometime before they hit the magical million mark like Uncharted but by no means does that mean that its a bad game. Some games just go under the radar and never hit the million mark (or not yet atleast like Heavenly Sword). So sometimes, its hard for developers to start the party because they need those sales but this is not the case for Polyphony. Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is not even out yet and in PAL territories alone, the game has already reached the 1 million mark for pre-orders before its March 28th release. Best part, this is just a glance at the massive Gran Turismo 5 thats to be released sometime in 2009.

PlayStation Family, February NPD Sales

It seems for February, Sony has gone and beaten the 360 for the second month in sales and this comes after every single PS3 model is more expensive then the 360. Is Sony finally doing a better job showing the value of the PS3? We hope so but I still believe they have a long ways to go. It also seems like the little guy, also known as the PSP pushed out 875,969 units, helping push $511 million in sales across the brand, more than Microsoft and Nintendo. The official release goes like this from the CEO Jack Tretton.

“Consumers are recognizing the tremendous value of PS3 and we believe that Blu-ray becoming the high-def format of choice was the tipping point for many consumers. With monster titles like Gran Turismo 5 Prologue and Grand Theft Auto IV launching in April and Metal Gear Solid 4 in June, we’re demonstrating this is the year for PS3.”

PSP: Skype Coming to Japan

We actually got something before Japan. Im gonna give you a minute to catch your breath and close your jaw. Ready? Ok. On March 19th Skype is coming to Japanese PSPs (slim) via free software update. Two new mics will go on sale in Japan on March 19th, one for ¥2,500 (US $24) and ¥4,000 ($39). Now why did we get it first (even Europe)…yes its ok to keep reading, its not the end of the world..yet. But apparently, the Mics did not meet Skype Specs.

Latest PlayStation Network Stats

It seems like the PSN is off to a good start, now there is plenty of room for improvement but that will be a later piece from us so here is some numbers. Do as you wish with them. In the US, 2.8 million registered users and that happens to be half of the PS3 users here with a 100,000 new users being added a week. From those 2.8 million users, surprise! 92% are male and 79% are between the ages of 18-34. With just a little over a year old, there is 46 Million downloads. From those, Flow is the highest selling PSN title in the US with Tekken 5 for UK. So there you have it. Numbers.

Sony’s Bluetooth PS3 Headset

Yes ladies and gentlemen. It really took that long for Sony to actually make their own PS3 Bluetooth headset. (Granted they offered them in the Warhawk retail package) but seriously. Now, dont get me wrong, one of the best things about the PS3 is that any Bluetooth piece work with it and I think thats one of the magics of the PS3. But because the system is so open, I feel like not enough people know how to take advantage of it and the casuals who just stroll into a store, dont know they can just grab a bluetooth piece and feel like they have to look under the gaming section. So its nice to see Sony stepping in the void cause im tired of talking to myself in Resistance!

New Playstation Store Leaked?

Remember that Rumor Mill we were talking about before? Either somebody forgot to turn it off and threw in Photoshop in the middle of it, or this is going to be the new look for the Playstation Store. A quick look at it will reveal that alot of the original content from the current Playstation Store are there, including Featured Items, Games Videos and Search tab but all this of course, with a twist of a fresh paint job. Other details seem to be that one can just simply scroll of the icon of the wanted content, and have it reveal the information without having to take you into another page like the Store currently does.

So before you start running to your PS3 to check this out, remember that this is just a “rumored leak” and for all we know, can just be another PhotoShop fantasy. Although, Sony does always work in advance with content providers so a leak is not out of the question.

PSP 4.0 Update Rumor

It seems like when the rumor mill starts to churn out, it always kicks into over drive when it comes to the PSP and PS3 firmware update. We assume somewhere between the info leaks and user fantasies, a form of “Ultimate Fusion” happens, thus the creation of all false information. Having said that, here is the latest:

PLAYSTATION 3 Network titles can be played on the PSP [Remote Play] under Game. The PSP is then used as a monitor for any game playable in Playstation 3 game console.
Real, Quicktime, and WMV audio and video codecs are now supported.
Shockwave Player has been added as a feature.
PSP web browser has been updated to allow compatibility with current websites.
Adobe Flash Player 9 has been added as a feature, using the Memory Stick Pro Duo as flash memory. [Adobe Flash Player 9] has been added as a feature, using the Memory Stick Pro Duo as flash memory.
Remote Play has been improved by the PS3 outputting 1080p to the PSP with larger icons text and better video quality. Remote Play now transmits at 11 mbps per second.
802.11g support has been added as a feature.
PSOne games can now be downloaded without a PS3.
Level 6 has been added to rate in Sony LocationFree Player to improve picture quality in H.264.
