PS4 Receives Price Cut in India

Official PS4_35

With the PS4 slim having launched world wide and PS4 Pro set to be released in a little over a months time, Sony is doing some inventory management which requires clearing out the old for the new. To that end, the original PS4 has received a nice price cut in India. Rishi Alwani writing for Gadgets 360:

Sony Airs New PS4 Slim Commercial

ps4_slim_ad_uk

Sony has a new ad out in the UK that showcases PS4 slim and touts its HDR capabilities. Of course while a slimmer design is touch, it’s doubtful most gamers truly care about a console size, seeing how it just sits in a specific spot. However, a lower starting price? They’ll care about that.

PS4 Accounts For More Than 6% of Internet Data Usage in North America

North_America_Data_Usage_At_Home_2016

You hear it over and over again that the world is going mobile or frankly, that the world has already gone mobile. Just how mobile? As Peter Kafka writes for recode:

30 percent of internet data usage at home comes from phones and tablets

While the decline of the PC as a preferred device to view content and in turn draw data is an expected one as consumers shift towards smartphones and tablets, what’s perhaps surprising is PlayStations ranking.

Konami Announces Metal Gear Survive

Metal_Gear_Survive_Zombie_Crystal

Because you’ve all been clamoring for a new Metal Gear game, Konami, one of the most loved(?) game publishers of the past five years has decided to indulge you with a new entry in the series. Acting as official canon, Metal Gear Survive takes place directly after Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes (which you’ll soon see in the trailer) when soldiers from the mercenary corporation Militaires Sans Frontières, and I shit you not, are sucked through a wormhole into an alternate universe.

Destiny: The Collection Includes Every DLC For Just $60

Destiny_The_Collection

I’m not going to say Destiny is the greatest game ever created but I’m also not going to say it’s not. In fact, nearly four years into PS4’s release, the game that I routinely go back to is Destiny. Don’t get me wrong, the game surely lacks the cinematic and emotional storytelling of Uncharted 4 but when I have some time to kill, Destiny is the game I can easily reach for and sometimes a quick 20 minute session turns into a 2 hour raid which I’m also okay with. That’s why I’m beyond excited for Rise of Iron, the newest DLC, which will drop on September 20th (a day before my birthday) and is set to bring new areas to explore with new guns, enemies, and strikes.

Final Fantasy XV Delayed for the Better

Final_Fantasy_XV_Gas

For those of you who follow me on Twitter (@SonyRumors), you’ll know that I’ve been championing Square delaying Final Fantasy XV after rumors broke out about a potential delay. For a title that was announced 10 years ago, another two months is frankly meaningless – but more importantly, another two months can go a long way towards tidying up the game.

Long time readers of SRN will know that I routinely favor game delays for the simple reason that you only launch once. In Square’s case, a lot is riding on this title that’s surely been an expensive endeavor to develop and redevelop – and poor reviews based on technical hiccups can go a long way towards reducing the game’s total sales potential. Not only that, but fans who’ve stuck out this long to get a game that’s potentially worthy of the Final Fantasy moniker deserve something truly special and not a bug-ridden game that gets ironed for two months after release.

So what was the exact cause of the delay? Director Hajime Tabata explains:

Sony Likely to Unveil PlayStation 4 Neo on September 7th

PlayStation_4_Neo_Invite

While the Xbox One S has been released into the world with a whimper, it’s safe to expect something a bit more flashy from Sony. Come September 7th, the PlayStation maker will take the stage in New York where they’re expected to unveil PS4.5, PS4K, PlayStation 4 Neo or whatever it is that we’re calling it these days. While not a lot is known about the PS4 successor, what we do know is this.

PlayStation VR to Offer ‘Cinematic Mode’ With a 226-inch Screen

Official_PlayStation_VR_7

One of the lesser known features of PlayStation VR will be its cinematic mode which in short can create your own personal cinema at home. The feature is designed to work with traditional PS4 titles and will be offered in three different sizes.

There are a trio of (simulated) viewing sizes: 117 inches, 163 inches and 226 inches. The translated post says that the default 163-inch size will encompass your entire field of view, while the gargantuan one will require you to move your head from side to side if you want to see everything at once. So, kind of like sitting in the front row of a movie theater. At the other end of the spectrum, the smallest size reorients the screen to your head movement. If you get tired while wearing the PSVR you can apparently lay down while wearing it and the display will match your horizontal perspective.

Horizon: Zero Dawn Dev Talks Female Hero

It’s quite apparent that Horizon: Zero Dawn is meant to be drastically different than previous titles developed by Guerrilla Games and you can tell that by just looking at the game’s main character, Aloy. Game director Mathijs de Jonge speaking with GameStop:

When we started with a concept we felt like we had a pretty fresh mix of ingredients; the BBC nature documentary kind of feel, and then the sci-fi elements with the robots. We also felt like we need a fresh main character. We’ve been making Killzone games; we’ve done male protagonists for quite a while. Now, we wanted to do something else.

PlayStation 4 NEO Specs & Overview Leak

PS4_Neo_Overview

One of my favorite lines from Avengers: Age of Ultron is when Stark is in the Hulkbuster suit, fighting an enraged Hulk that grabs him from behind, where Iron Man is most vulnerable and starts to rip out pieces of the larger suit to which he says

 Dick move, Banner

Somewhere at Sony, somebody is feeling like Stark, betrayed by a developer or worse, an internal employee who has just leaked a ton of information. This frankly isn’t just bad for them in terms of putting info out there before they’ve been ready to present, but also bad from a competitive standpoint against Microsoft, who may have not known some of the specifics.

Sony Ends Support for Ustream on PS4

PS4 - Ustream

I’ve been meaning to write about this for the past week but Sony will be ending support for Ustream on PS4.

The question is, will anybody actually care?

Not All PlayStation VR Games Will Support DualShock 4

Official_PlayStation_VR_8Just yesterday, news spread that any game coming to PlayStation VR would support the PS4’s DualShock controller. This meant that even if a game was intended for use with PlayStation Move controllers or the new Aim Controller, you wouldn’t need any of those additional equipment to enjoy them. While ‘good for the consumers,’ the news never made much sense to me as it would be a limit on what developers could do. What if they’d created a medieval type game where one Move controller acted as your shield and the other as your sword? Now you’d also have to dumb down that experience to fit the DualShock 4 – in turn shifting how the game would play and feel.

As it turns out, that’s not the case after all.

No Man’s Sky Game Size Revealed

No_Mans_Sky_Space_Battle

For some reason, people are really into articles like this and since I love to please all of you, here it is. The file size for No Man’s Sky, the ambitious and often delayed indie title from Hello Games has been revealed. It’s worth noting that despite the game having gone gold, the final space required could be much larger in size as other components are often delivered via day one downloads.
