New E-mount Camera and Lens Teased by Sony China

Sony_China_Weibo_Tease_2

Here is a place we don’t often see early interactions from. Sony China, via their Weibo (popular Chinese microblog), is teasing a new E-mount camera and E-mount lens. Presumably the photo above is for the E-mount camera and I wouldn’t be shocked if it turned out to be the Alpha A6100 that I briefly talked about yesterday. Sony is obviously taking the concept of the tease a little too far in that the photo could be of anything.

After the jump, one more photo from Sony China which hints at their new E-mount lens.

Sony_A7s_II_Front

Remember how the flagship Sony a7S II has that black spot problem where the camera algorithm inexplicably covers up the sun? As it turns out, the problem is not an isolated incident and spans to most a7S II units. Luckily as we’d presumed, the issue is one that can be solved via a firmware update and Sony is not only aware of it, but on top of it as well.

A statement from Sony is after the jump.

Do not attempt to adjust your computer/mobile device screen. The above photo was taken directly on the Sony a7S II, the flagship full-frame mirrorless camera and has not been accidentally Photochopped in any way. The black spot you see comes courtesy of the algorithm on the camera which likes to black out the sun.

Yea, let’s talk some more after the jump.

Sony to Focus and Expand E-Mount Ecosystem; Will Have 20 FE Lenses by 2016

Thanks to an internal document from Sony, we’ve learned a few things about their camera strategy and how they see things going forward. Compared to years prior, Sony is selling fewer fixed lens cameras, like their Cyber-shot series. Though Sony still releases new cameras like the Cyber-shot HX90V and WX500, it’s not a surprise that sales have declined. With the rise of smartphones and their ever-improving quality, Sony is in the same boat as other manufacturers like Canon and Nikon. Luckily, Sony has been improving its high-end camera sales where they’re seeing continued growth.

CES 2014 made it clear that Sony is going all in with 4K and NAB continued that promise with the announcement of the full-frame Sony Alpha A7s. As the name suggests, this isn’t a rethinking of the Alpha line and instead, an improvement on the full-frame A7 that was announced last year. In short, Sony is bringing 4K video recording to the party with vastly improvement sensitivity which is what the “s” in the name refers to.
